TOPIC: OLD TIME DETECTORS....

OLD TIME DETECTORS.... 8 Years, 7 Months ago
Hi...I can answer any questions about almost any Vintage Detector...To help me out post Pic's of the Detector including the Control Panel.....I can write detailed Instructions including how to Ground Balance and how to do Reverse Discrimination......I can give advise...some I consider only for their Collector Value... basicly some are just obsolete...others in my opinion can still keep up with the Big Boys Detectors...LOL......Some detectors are just very Rare....this does not necessarily mean it is worth a lot of money.....LOL...I wish that it did!! Also I can help determine if a detector needs Repair......I work the Night Shift at the local Hospital ...so please give me time to answer all posts........Starting later this week ...I may do a Vintage Detector of the week ....these will be out of my collection....so I will be talking first hand about the subject..............thanks TS

....I have all of the coils for it....right now I have the large 13 inch coil on it.....I would not recommend this detector for coin hunting...but with this large coil....I have found several old bottle dumps....also good for Cache Hunting.....TS

...Some more nostalgia tidbits....if you look at the decal for the Sidewinder ...you will see the cartoonish figure of what I believe Charlie Garrett called "Propecting Ernie"...which was based on the real life character and looks of "Van" Van Fossen of Houston..one of my mentors ...he took me into many treasure hunts into the "Houston Heights"......TS

I remember that detector was a real battery hog. I think I was buying three 9V's a week to keep it going.

...Mine is from 1970....but I believe that the Sidewinder model dates back to 1964....I have seen earlier versions on Ebay that look a lot more like their "Hunter" model usually minus the meter.....The Original models did not have Zero-Drift which Charlie invented around 1968....so installed that in all of his then current line-up.......The Sidewinder has no Discrimination but had a primitive type that would Null on the Old Small Square Iron Nails..and other small ferrous items......back then if we was Relic Hunting....I would dig the Positive and the Negative (..Null..) signals...I do not recall a problem with the batteries...... that might have had something to do with the discrimination circuit.....TS
